Wiele matek zachwala ten sposób przyjścia dziecka na świat, czasami to brzmi jak problem z głowy w przyspieszonym trybie. Tylko nie o to chodzi, bo to już nie jest zwykły poród, ale interwencja chirurgiczna. A wiadomo, że każda operacja niesie ze sobą pewne ryzyko, choćby tak prozaiczne jak zakażenie. Może też być niebezpieczna nie tylko dla matki, ale i dla dziecka. Poza tym rekonwalescencja trwa dłużej i uniemożliwia na przykład karmienie noworodka. Oprócz blizny, jest też jeszcze jeden skutek długofalowy i to dużo istotniejszy, bo wiadomo, że jeśli za pierwszym razem poród odbył się przez cesarskie cięcie, to bardzo mało prawdopodobne, że przy kolejnej ciąży rozwiązanie będzie naturalne. Oczywiście jeśli zaistnieje taka konieczność i pojawią się komplikacje, to nie ma innego wyjścia i trzeba się zgodzić na cesarskie cięcie. Natomiast jeżeli nie ma żadnych ku temu przesłanek, to lepiej nie kusić losu i nie prowokować problemów, decydując się dobrowolnie na bardziej ryzykowną opcję.
